Jael Uribe Publishes New Poetry Collection

I am pleased to announce to my readers and followers the publication of my new poetry collection, Las manos de mi madre: My Mother's Hands, now available on Amazon in a bilingual edition, Spanish and English.

This book brings together, among other texts, the poem that won first place in the Vicente Rodríguez Nietzsche Poetry Contest, from the International Poetry Festival of Puerto Rico, in 2017. It was published in a small format back then, and now a new expanded and translated edition has launched, to reach a little closer to my followers in other countries.

There are books that come from a war that no one names. This is one of them. Las manos de mi madre does not seek to offer easy comfort, but the honesty of looking directly at the open wound that made us more human and less naive. This is my voice in its rawest and most human form.

We grew up looking at affection out of the corner of our eyes, expecting the blow behind every embrace. We learned to read silence before words, and to call strength what was, in reality, pure survival. In these pages, I gather poems about love that sometimes wounds more than it comforts, and about the battles carried inside without anyone ever seeing them.

These are verses written from rage and tenderness, a reflection of everything that remains when something that was supposed to be unbreakable breaks.

Writing has always been my way of naming what would otherwise remain trapped. Every book I publish is also a stretch of that road, and this one, in particular, cost me more than the others. That is why sharing it means so much.

Thank you to those who have followed my work throughout all these years, who have been present at every launch, every reading, and who follow my Woman Scream (Grito de Mujer) project especially, and to those who today discover me for the first time through the pages of this book. That support carries my work in a way that words alone can never fully thank.

If this book finds you at the right moment to read it, or if you know someone it might reach, I invite you to get it and to share it.

Las manos de mi madre is now available on Amazon, in a bilingual edition.
