Many people may have opinions about who I am, but only I can truly share where I come from and what defines me. I am someone who loves to learn, create, and continually reinvent myself. I believe in sharing what I know with the intention of contributing something meaningful to the world.

I have little tolerance for mediocrity and choose to surround myself with people who act with integrity and clear values. I step away from what feels careless, hollow, or disconnected from my essence. I deeply value my privacy and find in solitude the ideal space to create freely and authentically. Everything else is simply decoration.

Jael Uribe, born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is a writer, designer, publicist, storyteller, poet, and painter. She is the President and CEO of the Women Poets International Movement (Mujeres Poetas Internacional, MPI Inc.), a foundation dedicated to promoting contemporary female poetry worldwide. She is also recognized as the founder of Grito de Mujer (Woman Scream Festival), a global network of events held throughout the month of March to honor women and raise awareness about violence against women.

Uribe holds a degree in Advertising Art from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) and a Master’s degree in Editorial Design and Digital Publishing from the Instituto Superior de Diseño de Barcelona (ESDesign). She has written poetry and fiction since an early age and has devoted her career to developing cultural projects that promote contemporary women’s poetry on an international level. Her work includes poetry competitions for women, international open calls, anthologies, and poetry readings. All of her initiatives center on women’s voices, non-violence, and gender-related issues.

Her most significant contribution is the creation of the Woman Scream International Poetry and Arts Festival, which since 2011 has served as a platform for both emerging and established poets and artists. The festival supports their artistic growth while engaging them in a broader social mission focused on ending violence against women.

Since 2009, Uribe has participated in numerous cultural events and international publications and has actively supported women’s causes. Notable experiences include her participation in the National Writing Project at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire in 2012 and the Children’s Literature Institute in Connecticut, USA, in 2006.

Cultural Management

Jael Uribe has created and led numerous cultural initiatives that bring poets and artists together from around the world. Among them, Grito de Mujer (Woman Scream Festival) stands as her most significant project. The festival is supported by a wide network of literary groups, poets, artists, organizations, and public and private institutions that collaborate voluntarily with a shared purpose: to promote messages of self-worth, empowerment, and non-violence against women and girls through poetry and the arts.

As President of the Women Poets International Movement, Uribe has coordinated more than 700 events from the Dominican Republic, reaching over 60 countries. Through her cultural work, she has created platforms that help poets and artists gain international visibility. In particular, the Woman Scream Festival has supported women involved in its mission by strengthening their leadership skills and cultural management experience.

Her efforts have fostered collaboration among literary groups and institutions across sectors to advance the cause of non-violence. The festival has been featured in international book fairs, ministries of culture, and cultural institutions in multiple countries, reinforcing its impact and global reach.

Graphic Design

In the area of graphic design, Jael has created the conceptualization of various nonviolence campaigns, slogans, logos, books and the corporate identity of the projects and events she has developed. She is also the designer of the general concept of the Grito de Mujer® brand and all its projects and digital marketing proposals.

Awards and recognition

In 2024, she was a finalist in two major international poetry competitions in Spain. In 2020, she was honored by the New York State Assembly for her cultural work. In 2018, she was selected as International Beat Poet Laureate for 2018–2019 in Connecticut, USA. That same year, she was featured by Forbes Magazine (December 2018) as one of the “Most Creative People from Latin America,” and was also included in Fierce by Mitú’s list of “14 Dominican Authors You Must Read.”

In 2017, she received the prestigious Freedom of Expression Award 2016 (Ytringsfrihetsprisen) from the Norwegian Authors’ Union in Oslo, Norway. In 2016, she won the Vicente Rodríguez-Nietzsche International Poetry Award at the Puerto Rico International Poetry Festival. In 2015, she was nominated Woman of the Year by the Dominican newspaper Diario Libre for her cultural work carried out in 2014.

In 2013, she received an award for her life essay in the competition Mujeres: Voces, Imágenes y Testimonios by Voces Nuestras in Costa Rica. In 2012, she received a commemorative plaque from the Directorate of the XV Santo Domingo International Book Fair and was also recognized by Ediciones Limaclara in Argentina for her cultural management work with Women Poets International. That same year, she received an honorable mention at the Diablos Azules International Poetry Competition in Trujillo, Peru.

In 2011, she earned an honorable mention at the Caños Dorados International Poetry Competition in Córdoba, Spain. In 2010, she received an honorable mention in the Nano Expresiones Project in Venezuela and won first prize for a children’s short story at the ELIEC Children’s Literature Contest in Argentina.

Books and publications

Jael Uribe is the author of the poetry book “De la Muerte al Fénix” (From Death to Phoenix), her first book, that compiles in over 180 pages her poetry up to 2014, it was published by the Ministry of Culture in Dominican Republic and the General Direction of the Santo Domingo International Book Fair in December 2016. From Death to Phoenix defines 5 different stages of her life as poetry author, starting with a death period, passing through the night, love, life, feminism, and ending with her becoming a fire bird, a Phoenix, raised above all darkness. Coming to the light path alongside Uribe is always an adventure to discover. Her poetry is complicated, obscure and somehow erotic and exoteric.

Bonjour, et bienvenue. Considérez ceci comme une petite étreinte de lumière.

Beaucoup de personnes peuvent avoir leur opinion sur moi, mais je suis la seule à pouvoir dire qui je suis vraiment et d’où je viens. Je suis quelqu’un qui aime apprendre, créer et se réinventer sans cesse, et qui partage ce qu’il sait avec l’intention d’apporter quelque chose de positif au monde.

Je tolère peu la médiocrité et je choisis de m’entourer de personnes aux valeurs claires et sincères. Je m’éloigne de ce qui est mal fait, creux ou déconnecté de mon essence. J’accorde une grande importance à ma vie privée et je trouve dans la solitude l’espace idéal pour créer librement et avec authenticité. Le reste n’est que décoration.

Voici un aperçu de ce que je fais :

Jael Uribe est née à Saint-Domingue, en République dominicaine. Elle est la fondatrice et présidente du Movimiento Mujeres Poetas Internacional (MPI), un mouvement international dédié aux femmes poètes. Jael est également la créatrice et directrice du Festival International Cri de Femme, connu sous le nom de Grito de Mujer – Woman Scream, un événement mondial célébré chaque mois de mars depuis 2011 en hommage aux femmes et en lutte contre la violence faite à leur égard.

Diplômée en arts publicitaires avec une spécialisation en relations publiques et communication d’entreprise, elle détient aussi un master en design éditorial et publication numérique de l’Institut de Design de Barcelone. Artiste plasticienne et graphiste, Jael écrit de la poésie et de la prose depuis son plus jeune âge. Elle s’est consacrée au développement de projets culturels promouvant la poésie féminine contemporaine à l’échelle internationale, tout en défendant l’égalité des droits entre les femmes et les hommes.

La poésie de Jael Uribe est souvent décrite comme une « chanson plurielle » par sa singularité féminine. Elle incarne la voix intérieure de toutes celles qui ne peuvent pas s’exprimer ou crier, un chant contre le silence, l’injustice et la dépendance. C’est aussi une « renaissance des cendres », à l’image du Phénix, un appel puissant à la transformation et à l’espoir.
